Follow Friday

Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one?

A. Wow that's a tough one, but so far I'm pretty sure the answer is no. There are nuanced characters who aren't all bad who I think were treated too harshly, but that's not really the question. I imagine I would start rooting for a villain if the main character REALLY bugged me to the point where I didn't care anymore. But I think this question is really hard because characters aren't black and white, so it isn't always clear who is 'good and who is 'bad'.

I would love to hear some specific answers since I am drawing a blank on any of my own! Please don't be shy to share a link!

  1. I'm afraid I can't help you. I couldn't come up with anything either... :)

    Happy Friday, Larissa!

  5. Yeah, I couldn't think of anything either. Alas, I love the turtle theme of your blog. Have a fun weekend.

  6. I agree that carefully nuanced villains can be interesting, but I never really "rooted" for any that I can think of.

  7. I couldn't think of one either! Oh well! New follower!

  8. I am another who couldn't think of one as well :)

    My FF,

    Have a great weekend!

  9. New follower :D

I could only think of one, which was the Frankenstein monster. His back story was just extremely sad.

  10. I totally agree with you - I usually root for the good guy! :)

  11. Mine was, too. BUT I came up with an antihero I was rooting for. NEW follower here.

  12. Hi

I'm a new follower hopping through on my first FF.

  13. It's a hard question this week. To be honest, if you start rooting for the villain because the main character is annoying you, then I don't think it is a book worth finishing!
I did think of one villain who people root for!

  14. I found this really hard too/ All I kept thinking is how much bella from Twilight annoyed me haha!!

  15. Good answer! I have met some characters that probably should have been killed, but you are right, no one is black or white.

  16. My answer wasn't a book but I really wished Wile E. Coyote could've caught a lucky break. Just once!
    New follower hopping through!

  17. Great answer! I agree with you on not knowing who is good and who is bad all the time. Every character has bad and good qualities. That's what makes them so interesting.

  18. Old follower here.

Everyone has pretty much been saying the same thing this week!

  19. Thanks for stopping by at my blog! I always prefer novels whose characters are 'grey' rather than 'black and white': it's one of the reasons I love ASoIaF so much. :) Following.

  20. This sounds really cool! I'll have to check it out! Thanks for sharing :)
