Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
A: I actually can't say I remember buying a book because of a bad review. Usually I am most swayed by positive reviews. I suppose if it was a really bad review I would be interested in reading it, but I wouldn't want to buy it, probably borrow it or get it from the library.
In other news: I am hosting my third annual haiku contest and I would love it if you guys would all check it out! Here is the link to the page for further information.

Good point about the borrowing rather than buying.

Yeah I agree, it would definitely be better to check it out of the Library or borrow it. But I will say I bought a book because of a bad review and I really enjoyed it :)

Exactly my thoughts, positive reviews may influence my thoughts but never really bad reviews. The most they'll do is pique my interest to check it out from the library.
ReplyDeleteHappy friday :)

I feel like I can only know for sure if I read a book myself, everyone has their own opinions and taste

Hopping through. :) I'm a new LinkyFollower!
ReplyDeleteI often read books because of negative reviews, if it is a good review.. As in, the reviewer explains why they disliked it and I realize that these things are stuff I usually like. Or if it a book that everyone seems to have an opinion about. *g*

ReplyDeleteReviews matter a lot to me. Not unless the book became controversial that I would really feel the need to read that book.

New follower from FF. I'm a bookaholic! Yes, I can say that with pride! I would purchase a book even with a bad review because the favor or dislike falls on the reader’s interpretation and none will ever be exactly the same.
