Lana falls hard and loves being a kept woman, but she soon finds that not all that glitters is gold. Shawn and his business partner ask Lana to begin delivering mysterious packages for them, but they seem to bring her more troubles. Lana reaches out to the one person she knows can help, Travis. That decision may lead to the end of her life.

Review:

Friend or Foe picks up right after Lana gets released from the mental facility where she was forced to go after being convicted for stalking. It was interesting to see her character develop throughout this story since she was so absent in the last installment. I also really enjoyed how the characters’ lives intersected and how the same level of action from the last book continued in this book. Another thing I liked about this book was that while there was a clear story arc that tied up nicely, there was definitely room for the plot to go forward with another book.

            This book series is called “A Series of Choices” but it feels to me like mainly it’s a series of bad choices. A problem I had with this book and with the previous books as well is that all the characters make poor choices that get them in a lot of trouble and make their lives miserable. A couple poor decisions could be okay, but if feels often like these characters don’t learn from their mistakes or know that the choice they are making is bad and do it anyway. This often leads to making their characters unlikeable and unsympathetic, so instead of feeling bad or nervous for a character I just wish someone would talk some sense to them.

            Needless to say I gave this three stars because it is a bit of a mixed bag. The overall action and premise is enjoyable, but I find it hard to connect with the characters, which is usually what carries the story for me.
